Multi-Dimensional Audio (MDA) uses HSA to bring positional and temporal information to audio
June 13, 2012 by Tony DeYoung
I just watched the very interesting presentation by SRS on MDA (Multi-Dimensional Audio) and it’s affinity to heterogeneous computing at AFDS-D (available on-demand) . MDA is an open standard object-based audio platform that allows mixers to create remarkably immersive soundtracks by mixing each individual element of the soundtrack independently in 3D space It represents sound sources as objects in space just as they are in the real world, without regard to the number of channels or speaker locations. MDA is not an audio codec. It simply extends the representation of audio to include positional and temporal information in addition to the traditional representation of the audio waveform provided by PCM.
SRS also announced the 3D Audio Alliance dedicated to advancing the state of the art of 3D audio throughout the entire electronic entertainment ecosystem. Founding members are AMD and SRS.
